Talented Owls expect to improve on 18-11 season
Scott Barron received word pretty quick after Max Hechl walked through the doors of Wakefield School for the first time this year.

"Three or four people asked him if he had spoken to Coach Barron yet, and by the end of the day I had made my way [to him]," Barron said. "He's been a pleasant surprise."
Hechl, a junior, previously attended Wakefield before moving to France. Now he's back and has joined a Wakefield team with high aspirations.
The Owls finished last season above .500 for the first time in school history, ending at 18-11 with a loss in the first round of the VISAA Division III playoffs. That was the Owls' first appearance in the state tournament and they also won a share of the Delaney Athletic Conference championship.
This season the Owls hope to win the DAC title outright and return to state.
"It used to be we'd talk about being one of the top teams," Barron said. "Now that were on top of the mountain, it's what are we going to do from here."
The Owls return three starters, including Eric Wilson, who was runner-up in DAC Player of the Year voting last season. The 6-3 junior averaged 15 points and eight rebounds per game.
Sophomore Jeff Byrd (6-3) and senior Ian Martin (6-0) are the other returning starters, while senior Brenton Lewis (5-11) will step in to start at point guard and senior Alex Floyd (6-1) will start in the post...
